To protect people’s identities, the WhatsApp-like privacy-focused messaging platform, Signal has added yet another useful feature in its application. This feature lets a Signal user blur people’s faces in a photo to protect them from the authorities.
As the protests against police brutality and racism remain to increase in the US, people are sharing more and more pictures on social media platforms to showcase the injustice by the law enforcers. A picture of a protestor does send a strong message to the viewers. However, it also puts the people at risk as law enforcers can track them by recognizing their faces.
So, in light of this problem, Signal recently declared that they are adding a feature in their application. A user can utilize the tool in Signal to blur the faces and then can share the image anywhere on the internet.
How to Blur Faces in Signal:-
So, here’s how you can utilize this tool to blur faces in Signal:
- Firstly, update the Signal application on your iOS or Android device.
- Open up any of the chat threads from your list, and for adding images, tap the camera icon.
- Select a photo from your gallery.
- Find the “Blur faces” button at the top toolbar and click it to activate.
Note: Once you click it, the application will automatically find faces in your image and blur them. However, sometimes it might not include all the faces in a picture automatically. Well, if that happens, you can take your finger and draw over any uncovered face to blur it out.
- Once you are done blurring all the faces, you can save the picture in your gallery and share it on any platform.
The Signal developers wrote, “One immediate thing looks clear: 2020 is a pretty good year to cover your face.”, and I agree with them. With applications like “Clearview AI,” law enforcers can easily find who you are even with a grainy image. So, in times like these, it is a safer option to protect your identity and of those near you.
