How to use this GST calculator

Start by picking the tab that matches your need. Use "Add GST" when you have a base price and want to charge tax on top of it; switch to "Remove GST" when you have a price that already includes tax and want to see the base value. Then type your amount into the amount field and choose the GST rate that applies to your item.

Select a preset slab such as 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% from the dropdown, or choose "Custom rate" to enter any other percentage. Press the calculate button and the tool instantly displays the base amount, the GST amount, and the CGST/SGST split (each is half of the total GST for sales within a state), along with the final figure you need.

When should you use each mode of this GST calculator? Pick "Add GST" when you are billing a customer on a tax-exclusive price — for example, goods worth ₹1,000 at 18% GST give a total of ₹1,180. Pick "Remove GST" when you want to break down a tax-inclusive bill to find the base price and the tax amount hidden inside it. If you work with numbers often, try our CGPA to Percentage Calculator for quick academic conversions, and bookmark this GST calculator for tax math. It follows the standard slabs notified by the CBIC (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs).

What Is a GST Calculator?

For businesses, it speeds up invoicing and quoting. For shoppers, it reveals how much tax is hidden inside a price tag. For students and accountants, it is a quick way to verify GST math without errors.

GST Slabs in India (Updated for GST 2.0)

Under the GST 2.0 reform effective 22 September 2025, India now has four main GST slabs. The old 12% and 28% slabs were abolished — most goods moved to 5% or 18%, while luxury and sin goods now attract 40%.

GST Rate Applies To (Examples)
0% Fresh food, milk, bread, books, education & healthcare services
5% Essential goods — packaged foods, footwear under ₹2,500, economy hotels, life-saving drugs
18% Standard rate — electronics, IT services, soaps, restaurants, most services
40% Luxury & sin goods — premium cars, tobacco, aerated drinks, casinos, high-end hotels

Special rates of 0.1%, 0.25%, 1%, 1.5%, 3%, 6% and 7.5% continue to apply to specific items such as gold, diamonds and composition-scheme dealers.

GST Calculation Formulas (With Examples)

To add GST: GST Amount = Base Price × (GST Rate ÷ 100). Total = Base Price + GST Amount.
Example: Base ₹1,000 at 18% → GST = ₹180, Total = ₹1,180.

To remove GST: Base Price = Total Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100). GST Amount = Total − Base.
Example: Total ₹1,180 at 18% → Base = ₹1,000, GST = ₹180.

CGST/SGST split: For intra-state sales, CGST = SGST = GST Amount ÷ 2.
Example: ₹180 GST → CGST ₹90 + SGST ₹90.

CGST vs SGST vs IGST

CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) apply when the buyer and seller are in the same state — each is charged at half the total GST rate. IGST (Integrated GST) applies to inter-state sales at the full rate and goes to the central government.

Example: A ₹1,000 item at 18% GST sold within Maharashtra → CGST ₹90 + SGST ₹90. The same item sold from Maharashtra to Delhi → IGST ₹180.
