The match was scheduled for 9:00 AM local time (5:30 AM IST) at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. But persistent rain meant the game was called off without even a toss taking place.
Under the tournament’s rules, with no reserve day and no play possible, the team with the higher ICC T20I ranking progresses. Remarkably, no ball has been bowled at the Nisshin venue since Saturday, when Nepal were 149 for 4 in 15 overs against hosts Japan before that game was also washed out.
Nepal’s Heartbreak
For Nepal, the exit is especially painful. They had been one of the stories of the group stage, stunning Afghanistan by five wickets in a famous upset that announced them as genuine contenders. To be eliminated without facing a ball in the knockout rounds — after rain also denied them a finish against Japan — will sting for a long time.
There is a symmetry to Sri Lanka’s progress, too. At the 2022 Asian Games, it was Sri Lanka who were eliminated at the quarter-final stage — by Afghanistan. This time, the rain has carried them through instead.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday, October 1:

The bronze-medal match and the final will both be played on October 3. With the forecast still uncertain, organisers will be desperately hoping the weather relents so the medals are decided on the field rather than by the rankings table.
What It Means for India
India, the defending champions, have reached the last four without playing a ball in the knockouts — their quarter-final against Afghanistan was washed out on Monday. They now face a Sri Lankan side in exactly the same position: talented, rested, but short of match practice in Japanese conditions.
For Indian fans, the hope will be that Thursday finally brings cricket instead of covers. After three days of rain-ruined quarter-finals, the tournament badly needs a real contest — and an India vs Sri Lanka semi-final, if it goes ahead, promises to be a cracker.
