Twitter, has been working on new features. The company recently began rolling out its Clubhouse audio room feature called ‘Twitter Spaces‘ to all users across the globe. And now, the company has announced another addition to the platform i.e Tip Jar.
The concept is fairly simple and self-explanatory. Twitter users can now add a new ‘Tip Jar’ button that seems like a dollar bill to their profile page. To use the feature, you touch on the button on anyone’s profile and you get options to tip them. Twitter is supporting many payment applications, including PayPal, Venmo, Cashapp, Patreon, and Bandcamp, so you can pick the payment method you want to use.
Understandably, Twitter is bringing this feature to its native mobile application on Android and iOS. After all, users have been using Twitter to bring tips and contributions for a long time now. You’ve presumably seen links to Venmo and Cashapp, or even someone’s SoundCloud page under a viral tweet in the past. With this new feature, Twitter is just incorporating that into its service, natively. While right now we cannot set up a Tip Jar on our profile, we saw the feature possible on some profiles on Twitter.
It’s worth noting that the tip jar is only possible on the profile page of a Twitter user. Users seeming to tip a creator or someone they want to support therefore will have to head to their profile to tip them some money. As of right now, it doesn’t appear that Twitter has plans to make this feature available in more places on Twitter, but that could always change with time.
Right now, Twitter says the feature is only possible to users who use the program in English, and it’s making Tip Jar available to only a limited group of people, including non-profits, journalists, experts, and creators.
