Reliance Jio has formally originated its free video conferencing service called JioMeet. The service was temporarily live a couple of months back, and the telecom giant has now made it accessible for everyone.

JioMeet will compete against the likes of Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. You can host meetings with up to a maximum of 100 participants on JioMeet. The service allows you to make HD (720p) calls that can go constant for up to 24 hours.

During the trial phase, JioMeet supported just five members for free users, and getting support for 100 members needed a Pro plan. However, the company has gone forward and made the service completely free to attract the Indian audience amid privacy concerns over its competitor app Zoom.

Meetings are password-protected, and hence, casual people cannot join and disrupt the session. Moreover, there’s also a digital waiting room so that the host gets to approve who attends the meeting.

You get multi-device login support up to five devices. The company ensures that you can seamlessly switch from one device to another while you are on a call. There’s also a “Safe Driving Mode” that you may use.

JioMeet is quite easy and straightforward to use. You can make a new JioMeet account by filling in your name and contact number or email address. JioMeet also gives you log in with the company’s domain.

A big thanks to WebRTC support, you can join JioMeet calls from your web browser without installing a dedicated application. According to JioMeet, users can join from Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. However, you have the option to install specialized applications on major platforms such as Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. The service also provides an Outlook plugin.
